Designing during a holiday season.

With the past week of Thanksgiving celebrations and now decorating and getting ready for Christmas, it's a major challenge to focus on my designing and pattern writing.

I'm feeling a major accomplishment today as another piece of the design has come together.  The sample is almost finished.

What do you think?

Thanks for stopping by.

Designing and Organizing

One of my biggest dilemmas is balancing my crochet designing, documenting the pattern directions, and promoting my sales venues.  It is a monumental task.

I keep plugging away at it.  The rest of the story revolves around fitting this creativity in between spending quality time with the family I have ... grands ages newborn to 16, mid life-aged sons and their faithful wives, and a husband who is my best friend.

Income building blog

Streams of Income blog is produced by our nephew Ryan Reger.  He is a published author plus he has a weekly radio broadcast where he introduces other successful entrepreneurs and how they built their own business.

The Streams of Income book is available on Amazon via Kindle, Audible or print version.

Ryan is a very energetic guy, so he's fun to watch and listen to.

Bookmarks designed by Hands of Blessing Designs

I want to share a few of my designs with you today.  I started crocheting when I was a child but never really caught on until my senior year of college.  I found a big hook and a heavy cotton yarn, and away I went.  Even then, I made up my own pattern (very simple) and figured out how to make a throw blanket.

Fast forward a lot of years until I'm in my mid-30's, with two small children plus a 10-year-old and a full time job.  My husband and I tag teamed babysitting for a few years so I was home in the evening with the children.

My work supervisor and her daughter and daughter-in-law started a consignment gift shop in town, and I decided to try my hand at selling Christmas ornaments.  I began crocheting with tiny hooks and crochet thread instead of yarn, and finally managed to make white snowflakes - the kind you have to starch so they hang stiff on the Christmas tree.

My crocheting saga has turned many corners.  The current emphasis of my journey is bookmarks.  Most often a bookmark is rectangle shaped, and I do have those in my pattern catalogue.  Today, though, I would like to introduce you to my heart-shaped bookmarks which slide down over the corner of the page(s).  Both sides are identical and have a wide enough space between the layers to accommodate several pages in case you want to mark two locations.

It's a unique way to mark the last spot you ended your reading.  This particular design is called "A Corner for My Heart.

9/11 twentieth anniversary

On 09/11/01 I was at the office when an associate entered the office suite with the news that an airplane had hit the first tower.  We found a radio to listen to and not too much later heard the news of the crash at the Pentagon.

It was traumatic, to say the least.  The patriotism that emerged from that day wastremendous.  My heart is saddened that in only 20 years we have lost that fervor.

Our hometown uses the ladder fire engine to hoist the flag on special occasions over the main intersection of our small town.  Today is one of those special days, and it is even more appropriate to lift the flag with the fire truck today.

God bless America.  Land that I love.

Blog Redesign

It seemed today was a good day to give my blog a facelift.  I hope you like it.

I'm still experimenting.

Finding and Using the Appropriate Yarn

You see a pattern you would like to make, OR, you see a beautiful yarn that just calls your name.  What is the most appropriate yarn for the project?

Always be sure to read the labels.  The contents of the label will give you a few clues as to whether the yarn you like and the pattern you have in mind are the right combination.

Is the GAUGE relevant?  Yarn is graded in size from 0 to 7 (finest to bulkiest).

It is extremely important to the success of your project that the fiber be the right size.  If you use a very fluffy yarn in a pattern that has delicate stitch groups, you will end up with a puffy mess.  The delicacy of the stitches will be lost.

Coffee and Crochet

While you relax and crochet, that cup of coffee next to you smells oh...so...good.

Here is a link to some of the coffee options on Amazon.  My favorite brand for regular coffee is Folgers, but it is nice to have the option of various flavors for you individual cups.
